Opportunities for Growth Living in Quarantine

How are you?

Perhaps the shock of our new way of life is starting to wear off as you establish a new normal for this season.

I would encourage you to pay attention to what emotions bubbled up over the past week. It is very likely that many of us were triggered in some way by an emotional memory or traumatic event and that’s okay.

The Lord allows us to be triggered in areas where He knows we are ready for Him to bring healing. He invites us to bring those feelings to Him and dialogue about them.

Yes, I really do mean dialogue.

Expect Him to speak back as you quiet yourself and listen for His gentle impressions, still small voice or highlighted verses as you read the Bible or devotional resources.

The Holy Spirit is a real person and wants to bring you comfort and peace. There is a reason He is called the Counselor. He longs to bring truth and understanding to what is going on inside of you because He knows and cares. He loves YOU!

Since most of the world is in quarantine, we have a unique opportunity to slow down and simplify our lives to what matters most. The quarantine forces us to face ourselves and our internal reality. We have a choice: to fill our time to “just get through” or to seek to grow.

I believe many of us need to grow emotionally, spiritually, relationally or even intellectually.

I have been reviewing my journals over the past year to see what bible verses, songs or quotes have really been speaking to me. What have I heard the Lord say to me over the past year or so? What has He been teaching me?

This is important because I believe He has been uniquely preparing each of us for this time. He has equipped us with biblical truths that He wants to become a reality in our lives in a new way. This is when we go from simply mentally agreeing with biblical truth, to actually experiencing it in a way that it becomes a deep part of our life.

I have been listening to songs that have touched my heart in the last few months and asking the Lord to reveal some of the reasons He has highlighted these song to me. I then put these songs on periodically throughout the day and worship until I once again believe the truths they declare and fortify my peace.

I truly believe we have a unique opportunity for the Lord to firm up our foundations so we can truly abide in Him like never before. He wants us to be so anchored in Him that others take notice and want to know the Jesus we do.

We must choose to believe He is who He says He is and who He has demonstrated Himself to be in the Bible and in our lives up until this point.

“Jesus, the Anointed One, is always the same—yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 TPT

Our circumstances are changing, but Jesus is not. Let Him keep you anchored in this storm so that you may stand even when things are shaking all around you.

So now, beloved ones, stand firm and secure. Live your lives with an unshakable confidence. We know that we prosper and excel in every season by serving the Lord, because we are assured that our union with the Lord makes our labor productive with fruit that endures.   1Corinthians 15:58 The Passion Translation

I want to leave you with this powerful song by Bryan and Katie Torwalt, “Prophesy Your Promise,” to encourage you to declare the truth of who He is in the times when it may be hard to remember.

“Fear can go to hell, shame can go there too,

I know who’s I am, God I belong to you.”

What verses or songs have been strengthening you recently?

Feel free to share them in the comments as it may encourage someone else.

Blessings to you and your family for good health and peace.

God is on the Move

I believe the Lord is gathering His hungry and passionate children to unite and pursue Him like never before. He is becoming our all consuming passion and our relationship with Him is bringing new life to us and to those around us.

I am more consumed with His love and goodness than ever before, and my excitement continues to grow as I watch Him touch the lives of those around me. Joy rises up within me as His love is transforming lives and bringing restoration as only He can.

God is on the move.

Recently my family ended up in a Home Depot one evening because my husband wanted to check on something that was on sale. We went in and all that remained was a floor model with some significant defects. The kids and I stayed with the kind employee, while Ryan went with another employee to see if there were any other Home Depots who had it in stock.

God is on the move.

As we chatted, the Holy Spirit connected us with many similarities that made us feel like old friends instead of having just met. He began to share some painful memories from his childhood that surrounded his birthday. The kids and I empathized with him. We listened and cared.

When my husband returned we shared some of the relevant things with him so he could also share in his grief and we could speak life and encouragement to him. His birthday is coming soon, so we all wished him a very happy birthday. As we headed off to the next Home Depot, our new friend said how happy he was to have met us.

God is on the move.

It was getting late, but we drove 30 minutes (out of our way) to another Home Depot. My husband and kids went in to pick up the item we decided on, but were in there a VERY long time. It turns out it rang up at a much higher price so my husband had to bring the cashier to where the sign indicated the sale price was still in affect. Upon the sales price being confirmed, they headed back towards the front of the store.

God is on the move.

Ryan overheard a conversation between a Home Depot employee and a customer about Jesus helping this man to quit smoking. Without even thinking, my husband joined their conversation and offered to pray with the man and the female employee who was so encouraged that God would send a “man of God” in the store.

The three held hands and Ryan prayed for his healing and freedom from addiction. The Holy Spirit was anointing Ryan’s words and ministering to this man hope that a stranger would stop and pray for his need. After a brief prayer, while many curious customers looked on, the trio shook hands and Ryan told the gentleman that she was going to keep him accountable to quit.

God is on the move.

I’m sure you have stories you could share and we could all marvel at the way God is moving and meeting people and drawing them to Himself.

The song, “This is a Move” by Brandon Lake and Tasha Cobbs Leonard is such a powerful song declaring the power of God moving and transforming lives. It prophesies how exciting it is to be a disciple of Christ right now as He sets our hearts on Him and loves others through us. Let this song ignite your faith and inspire you to join Him moving on this earth.

Mountains are still being moved

Strongholds are still being loosed

God we believe it

Yes we can see that

Wonders are still what You do

Come and do what You do

We are here for You

Come and do what You do

Set our hearts on You

Come and do what You do

‘Cause we need a move

We need a move

Bodies are still being raised

Giants are still being slayed

God we believe it

And yes we can see that

Wonders are still what You do

Miracles happen when You move

Healing is coming in this room

Miracles happen when You move

Heaven is coming

This is a move

This is a move

We are here for You

Come and do what You do

A Miraculous Way Out

He [Peter] signaled for them to be quiet as he shared with them the miraculous way the Lord brought him out of prison.

Acts 12:17 (TPT)

Peter was securely bound with two chains between two sleeping guards and awakened in the middle of the night by an angel of the Lord who escorted him out of jail.

Peter decided to go to the home of Mary and her son John Mark where the house was filled with people praying.

Needless to say, the people were very surprised to see Peter appear at their door in the middle of the night in such a dramatic answer to their prayers.

As I read this account yesterday, I was immediately drawn to the “way the Lord brought him out of prison.” While letting those words percolate in my heart a question arose.

In what ways has He brought you out of prison?

It was a powerful question.

This blog originated as an opportunity for me to share how the Lord is leading me out of the prison of depression, insecurity, and people pleasing to name a few.

He repaired some cracks in my foundation and fortified my relationship with Him in a very deep and real way. I now KNOW, experientially, in the deepest places of my heart the security only found in being His beloved.

I’m still very much on a journey to experience greater freedom and healing and I hope to continue to share some of what I am learning along the way in case it may be helpful or encouraging.

So now I ask you, friend, in what ways has He brought you out?

Let’s pray.

Father, I thank You for the freedom You have already brought us through the power of the blood of Jesus. Holy Spirit, please continue to work with my brothers and sisters to break the chains that keep them stuck in the past or in unhealthy patterns. Release an anointing for them to experience Your love like never before so that they will KNOW, experientially, in the deepest places of their hearts the security only found in receiving Your love and letting it heal and transform them for the honor and glory of King Jesus. May it be so.

The Company You Keep During a Season of Hardship Matters

Even though the Lord may allow you to go through a season of hardship and difficulty, He Himself will be there with you. He will not hide Himself from you, for your eyes will constantly see Him as your Teacher.  Isaiah 30:20 (TPT)

I don’t like hardship and difficulty. I really don’t. However, if I’m honest, it has been through the most difficult and darkest times that I have grown the most. On several occasions, I have been brought to a breaking point where it felt like something inside of me was dying. It was scary, painfully scary. Yet, in the midst of the turmoil of my unraveling, my loving Heavenly Father held me close and affirmed me as His beloved daughter.

Jesus kept bringing me back to the Father’s love when I was disoriented and lost my way in a consuming darkness. The Holy Spirit comforted and taught me how to truly rest in the Father’s love and security when I was unable to care for my family or even myself.

It was through the death (of what needed to die) that resurrection of my true self began to slowly emerge in strength, deeply rooted in the goodness of Father God, who not only carried me through, but blessed me with a new depth of intimacy with Him. I learned He was truly all I needed when He was (virtually) all I had.

Perhaps you are facing a season of hardship that has pummeled you to such an extent that it has knocked the wind out of you and left you feeling helpless and vulnerable in ways you never imagined possible. I know how unsettling it is to feel like you are coming undone and not be able to do anything about it, but hope it doesn’t last forever.

It won’t. The end of the tunnel is closer than you realize.

In my experience, if you keep positioning your heart towards Him and giving Him your weakest “yes”, in the midst of all your fear or anger, I know He will meet you in the pain and bring healing as only He can. He will strengthen your foundations so you will find love and security in Him alone.

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, I confess that sometimes I doubt Your presence and goodness because of the turmoil around me and in me. Please forgive me for blaming You for the bad and partnering with the lie that You don’t care about my suffering. Thank You for Your open arms of grace that console the deepest hurts in my heart and embrace me with a healing love that transforms me from the inside out. Thank You for Your grace and understanding and how You love me just as much on my good days as my bad ones. Thank You for carrying me in Your loving grace. Your grace is real. Please help me be just as much aware of Your grace as I am my suffering, and please take me to the place where I become more aware of Your love and grace THAN my suffering. Although it may be hard to see right now, I choose to believe that Your plans for me and my family are good. I choose to believe that You are good and You never change. Thank you for never leaving me or forsaking me and promising to be close to the brokenhearted and those crushed in spirit. Please teach us who You are right now that you couldn’t be in any other season of our faith journey. We want Jesus to get the full reward of His suffering and death on the cross so we may experience a powerful resurrection, in our lives and circumstance, and walk as the new creation He destined us to be for the honor and glory of Jesus Christ. May it be so.

Let’s Go…

7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is in the LORD. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.  Jeremiah 17:7-8

I believe I have been on a journey to discover the access I have to a constant flow of living water because of Jesus Christ in me. I’m learning how to drink deeply and stay full with expectation of overflow. The struggles of the past few years have been intense. They came on every front and although most are improving, almost all still remain in some form. Yet through this, the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit have revealed themselves to me in very deep and real ways. I hope to share my journey of becoming a secret spring because I believe the same invitation is being extended to YOU.

Let’s pray.

Oh Father in Heaven, thank You for Your great invitation to experience new life in Jesus Christ and drink from the living water that never runs dry. Please show us what that means specifically for each of us. Please open the eyes, ears and hearts of my brothers and sisters to receive all You have for them. Holy Spirit, I ask You to stir our hearts in new ways and partner with us to remove any blockages that may be hindering this flow of living water. Please give us the courage to identify, confess, and turn from them as You lead. I ask for a fresh hunger and thirst for your Word and the ability to discover Your goodness and mercy even in the midst of the heat or drought of trials. May we be refreshed and yield much fruit for Your honor and glory. In Jesus’s name. May it be so.
