Don’t Forget to Celebrate This

Today is Reformation Day, often overshadowed by other cultural festivities that involve costumes and candy. 😀

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther released 95 powerful statements defending authentic Christian faith against misleading religious practices. His actions inspired countless believers to pursue true repentance and a biblical foundation for their faith.

Luther recaptured the biblical view of the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:9) and empowered all to serve God in their work (Colossians 3:23).

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”

I Peter 2:9 NKJV

Christians did not need a pope or priest to mediate between them and God but could connect with God directly through His Word and Holy Spirit.

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,”

I Timothy 2:5 NKJV

While many of us would affirm this truth with a tone of stating the obvious, I can’t help but wonder if we need this reminder more than ever, especially in churches desiring to walk in the fullness of the Spirit and all of His gifts.

I value the prophetic and authentic prophetic words have sustained me through some of the most challenging seasons of my life. However, these words are in addition to my feasting on the Word of God and discerning His voice for myself. The Lord often sends prophetic words to confirm what we have already sensed Him saying.

“Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.”

I Corinthians 14:1 NKJV

When Holy Spirit leads you to speak a confirming word to someone, it reveals Him as active, engaged, and present in a personal way. It brings joy to everyone involved as it strengthens all of our faith.

When I value and steward His voice for me, I find it becomes easy for Him to flow through me for others naturally, often without me even knowing it.

I want to appreciate my direct access to God and develop that relationship to be my anchor, and any prophetic words or prayers are just icing on the cake. Yet, I want to be available and allow Holy Spirit to speak through me to reveal Himself to the lost, hurting, or seeking.
