Happy New Year! It is the first day of 2024, which can bring various feelings, depending on the previous year and your emotional state.
I’m recovering from a cold that passed through our kids and, despite my best attempts at immune-boosting supplements, rudely interrupted my weekend. A slower pace after the busyness of Christmas and the socialness it brings was welcome for me, an introvert.
I enjoyed resting and reading while my husband took the kids on hikes and adventures. The cats and I savored the quiet and one another.
I have sensed Holy Spirit inviting me to consecrate myself to Him in specific ways. One of these ways is through reading through the Bible this year CHRONOLOGICALLY through the Bible Recap plan on the Bible App. It is about three chapters of scripture a day with a recap video to process the reading and discover God’s nature and His metanarrative of the Bible.
I’ve read through the Bible cover to cover, but never chronologically, and I am excited about this challenge and the fruit it will yield.
The world continues to spiral into ever-increasing darkness and deception, and I want to get more scripture in me so I can better discern truth, as lies and deception will only increase.
For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.
Romans 16:18
I do not want to be naive regarding life and the swirl of information coming our way. I want to be firmly rooted in the Word of God so Holy Spirit will have plenty of scripture to bring to remembrance.
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
Colossians 2:8
Each new season of life often has new requirements for our spiritual growth. It is up to us to stay connected and sensitive to Holy Spirit and what He is asking of us so we may move from surviving to thriving. It won’t happen overnight, but consistent time in the Word of God and prayer will bear fruit in time.
We don’t plant tomato seeds and expect tomatoes the next day or even the next week or month. However, over time and with plenty of water and sun, the seeds will grow into a plant that will produce fruit as sweet as candy and worth the wait and hard work.
May 2024 be the year we all tend the garden of our hearts with greater intention and care for the honor and glory of Jesus. Amen.
