The Power of Presence

All relationships experience ebbs and flows.

There are times of exciting discoveries about one another. The process of learning someone’s likes, dislikes, what makes them unique, laugh and feel loved.

There are fun times where time flies.

There are hard times and heartbreaks.

I have found that my deepest relationships are those that have stood the test of time and weathered life’s storms.

I feel known and accepted for who I am: no need for performing or pretending. Silence is comfortable and communication that transcends words is natural through the glance of an eye or the connecting of hearts.

This has been true of my relationship with God.

It has taken time to truly discover each member of the Trinity for who they really are and not my perception of them. I needed to move beyond theological knowledge, to knowing the actual Persons of the Trinity, all of whom are equally God.

It is a mystery and a marvel that it is even possible.

I once spent a lot of time anxiously pouring out my needs and struggles. Eventually, I also learned to really listen and just enjoy His presence. Our relationship is growing deeper.

He is enough.

His presence makes me come alive.

There is nothing like His love and acceptance.

The song, “Be With Me” by Bryan and Katie Torwalt has been a blessing to me. It puts words to my experience.

It helps me to slow down and focus on the presence of God and bask in His love. I hope you are blessed by it as well.

LYRICS:

The world falls away

When I see Your face

Jesus, it’s always been You

And I hear Your voice

Above all the noise

Jesus, it’s always been You

Jesus, it’s always been You

Be with me

I just want You to be with me

I don’t need You to do a thing

Your love is enough

There’s nothing to hide

I’m Yours and You’re mine

Jesus, it’s always been You

I am complete

What more could I need

Jesus, it’s always been You

Jesus, it’s always been You

In Your presence

I know where I stand

I know who I am in Your love

In Your presence

What more could I need

I know I’m a child of God

Let’s pray.

Thank You for meeting us where we are and taking us deeper with You. Please help me discover even greater depths of Your goodness and love. Take me deeper into Your heart so we can connect beyond words and I can become all You created me to be for Your honor and glory. May it be so.

Have a blessed weekend and receive all He has for you!

Never Underestimate the Healing Power of Song

“Lean Back” from Capital City Worship has been such a blessing. Many of us have deep wounds in our hearts that He longs to heal. May we all stay still until the Father’s love sinks in and we truly believe His love is better than any other.

“Lean Back” (lyrics)

You will never leave

Your love sustaining me

Before I even knew what love was

You’ve brought me here to rest

And given me space to breathe

So I’ll stay still until it sinks in

(Chorus)

I will lean back in the loving arms

Of a beautiful Father

Breathe deep and know that He is good

He’s a love like no other

(Bridge)

Now I can see Your love is better

Than all the others that I’ve seen

I am breathing deep all of Your goodness

Your loving-kindness to me

The Song That Became My Lifeline

On Sunday, February 11, 2018, I wasn’t feeling very well emotionally and it became very clear that something was seriously wrong. My husband and I were scared, so I asked him to put on the Sunday evening service at Bethel Church that was just beginning.

I let the music wash over me in an attempt to calm my fear. The worship leader, Jonathan Helser, announced they had a new song to share that they had just finished writing. I listened to the story and the words and they touched me deeply. I didn’t understand why, but I knew this was MY song and that God was speaking to me.

“When the pressure is real, Your Presence is greater, greater, greater.”

That phrase was planted deep within me and would become a lifeline as I walked through the horror of those initial months. I reminded myself over and over that His Presence was greater than what I was facing no matter how great the pain and suffering.

“When the pressure is real, Your Presence is greater, greater, greater.”

The suffering and pressure I encountered was VERY REAL, yet I had to believe that His Presence was GREATER and would overcome any diagnosis, no matter how severe.

Then as the song was ending, Jonathan said the following:

“This is holy ground. This is holy ground. Just declare it over your life. It’s holy ground. Declare it over your trials. Declare it over your circumstance. It’s holy ground. What the enemy meant for evil the Goodness has overcome.”

AMEN! The blood of Jesus has overcome any evil facing you or your family and you will watch the victory unfold in His way and timing.

The link below should take you to the complete Sunday evening worship set. It will start with an ad and you can place your cursor on the white dot and slide to minute 56 where “Fourth Man” begins. You many also have to turn on the sound by clicking on the “speaker” icon if there is an “X” by it and the sound will turn on. I hope it works, because as far as I know, this song hasn’t been released yet and this is the only place to find it. 🙂

“Hymn of the Holy Spirit” Lyrics

Holy Spirit, guide my vision

Help me see the way You see

Always Jesus, ever Jesus

Christ in all as Christ in me

Holy Spirit, guide my speaking

Words of grace and truth abound

Let my lips be filled with stories

Of the mercy that I’ve found

[Chorus 1]

You’re the light, You’re my path

You’re the shepherd of my soul

All I am, all I have

Holy Spirit, lead me on

Holy Spirit, guide my hearing

Wake my ears to words You speak

In the thunder, in the stillness

Let Your voice be clear to me

Let Your voice be clear to me

[Chorus 2]

You’re the light, You’re my path

You’re the shepherd of my soul

All I am, all I have

Holy Spirit, lead me on

Oh, You’re the light, You’re my path

You’re the shepherd of my soul

All I am, all I have

Holy Spirit, lead me on

Holy Spirit, lead me onward

Walking through the great unknown

Trusting, leaning, holding, clinging

Till the day You lead me home

[Interlude]

Oh, guide my feet

Oh, guide my feet

Lead me on

Lead me on, Lord

Holy Spirit, open up my eyes

Holy Spirit, open up my heart

Open up my ears

Onwards You show me where You lead me

I will follow

[Chorus 1]

You’re the light, You’re my path

You’re the shepherd of my soul

All I am, all I have

Holy Spirit, lead me on

[Outro]

Holy Spirit, lead me on

Pleasant Pools

tree by water

5 How enriched are they who find their strength in the Lord; within their hearts are the highways of holiness! 6 Even when their paths wind through the dark valleys of tears, they dig deep to find a pleasant pool where others find only pain. He gives to them a brook of blessing filled from the rain of outpouring. 7 They grow stronger and stronger with ever step forward…Psalm 84:5-7 (TPT)

Life is a journey. The word “journey” conjures up images of beautiful destinations, discoveries, and a pilgrimage of sorts. Adventure makes me think of wild and thrilling escapades requiring faith and courage.

My life as a wife and mother is not filled with tales worthy of the big screen; however, I can honestly say that living increasingly surrendered to Jesus has transformed the mundane and restored my wonder. I am learning to see life like a child, as I am reparented by my Heavenly Father and nurtured by the Holy Spirit all while Jesus intercedes.

You see, it’s not about extravagant destinations or adrenaline rushing activities documented on Facebook or Instagram. My adventures are about living life with the awareness of His presence. In normal everyday life, discovering how much He really loves me, and letting His love transform me into the person He created me to be. This empowers me to love and enjoy Him AND THEN to love and support my husband on his journey, while raising two children to embark on their own. It’s heart wrenching, holy, and humbling as I constantly need to dig deep to find the “pleasant pools” hidden in the “dark valleys” of life.

Let’s pray.

Oh Father, thank You for seeing me right where I am. You see me and understand me better than I understand myself. Thank You for being present and enjoying each season of my life with me. Please grow my awareness of Your presence with me so I can experience Your love and delight in me just as I am; while You love me to become the person You destined me to be. Please help me to see myself as You see me. Please give me the grace to love and accept myself, as You love and accept me. Thank you for actually liking ME and I ask You to help me to truly like myself. In Jesus’s name. May it be so.

Let’s Go…

7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is in the LORD. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.  Jeremiah 17:7-8

I believe I have been on a journey to discover the access I have to a constant flow of living water because of Jesus Christ in me. I’m learning how to drink deeply and stay full with expectation of overflow. The struggles of the past few years have been intense. They came on every front and although most are improving, almost all still remain in some form. Yet through this, the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit have revealed themselves to me in very deep and real ways. I hope to share my journey of becoming a secret spring because I believe the same invitation is being extended to YOU.

Let’s pray.

Oh Father in Heaven, thank You for Your great invitation to experience new life in Jesus Christ and drink from the living water that never runs dry. Please show us what that means specifically for each of us. Please open the eyes, ears and hearts of my brothers and sisters to receive all You have for them. Holy Spirit, I ask You to stir our hearts in new ways and partner with us to remove any blockages that may be hindering this flow of living water. Please give us the courage to identify, confess, and turn from them as You lead. I ask for a fresh hunger and thirst for your Word and the ability to discover Your goodness and mercy even in the midst of the heat or drought of trials. May we be refreshed and yield much fruit for Your honor and glory. In Jesus’s name. May it be so.
