The older I get, the more I cherish quality food. When I was young, I rarely enjoyed eating and only ate because my body required it. I was too busy playing soccer or softball.
When I became a Christian at age 18, during the fall of my first year of college, I quickly discovered spiritual hunger. I got a bible and couldn’t stop reading. I was getting so much revelation, and it made me want more.
I stopped going out with friends all the time and stayed in my dorm room devouring the Word of God. I eventually found other Christians who I could share what I was learning and have great discussions over meals at the subpar dining hall.
Proverbs 18:15 says, “The spiritually hungry are always ready to learn more, for their hearts are eager to discover new truths.” That new Christian hunger lasted a while because everything was new and exciting.
Life happens, and there were ebbs and flows to my spiritual hunger as the distractions of life pulled me in all directions. Different seasons of life placed new demands, and connecting with the Lord was on the fly, grabbing moments when I could. There is grace in every season to connect with Him if that is our desire.
Walking with Jesus and fellowshipping with Holy Spirit over two decades has led me to ask the Lord to give me spiritual hunger consistently. In and of myself, I can’t conjure it up. It is a gift of His grace.
Let’s ask Him to increase our spiritual hunger for Him so we can commune even more deeply with Him. When we do, we get filled with His Spirit and are often given wisdom for ourselves or those around us.
“Sharing words of wisdom is satisfying to your inner being. It encourages you to know that you’ve changed someone else’s life.” Proverbs 18:20
We must daily choose to slow down, be quiet and feed on the Word of God to strengthen our inner man. Our lives and those around us depend on our consistent discipline of meditating on scripture and conversing through the Spirit in prayer.
Lord, increase our hunger for You and give us wisdom and revelation so we may partner with You to encourage those around us for Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Great article. Reminds me of the scripture, Man can not live by breD alone, but by every breath that proceeds from His mouth.”I share in your testimony! When God saved me many years ago, I too had a sudden desire for knowing His Word, i couldn’t get enough of studying the Word. I still have that desire and teach it to others!

I think the more we thirst the more He give us a desire to keep needing more and more … there is such an endless store of all He offers… Great thoughts…
